![]() I prefer Gift of the Chain Master over Investment myself. Life is easier for me that way and I save an invocation. I prefer to save my imp for utility, combat utility (imp handing out potions is cheaper than using an action on mage hand) and occasional advantage. Inflicting conditions will start to be more effective than damage by that point. You can't cast Find Familiar while you short rest. The casting time isn't great since you already want short rests. Even once you have high enough level that the gold is trivial, you still have to acquire the materials, so stock up on incense every time you go to a town.Īnd will take 1 hour and ten minutes per cast. You need more than 10 gp per cast, you need 10gp of consumed incense per cast. With that imp, on the other hand, you have an invisible scout whose eyes you can see through as long as you're on the same plane of existence (once you take the right invocation). If you want a fighting companion, Beastmaster (the Tasha's version) or Drakewarden are where you should go. Sure, you can play smart and try to avoid that, but you won't. Expect it to die if you attack with it, every time. At level 1, it's very squishy, and it doesn't get any stronger as you level up and enemies become more dangerous.
